In a world surround by wars, rage, hate, and oppression to the general public, how can “We” attain anything we strive to achieve? Around every corner is another person out for themselves and not to help others achieve their goals but to further along their own. How do the rich get rich and stay rich? Just what I stated above. Conniving heartless selfishness.
In the news you hear stories about uprisings in countries all around us. People who have been pushed to such a limit that they cannot take it anymore. It’s a travesty that things like that actually happen, that in this day and age of technology and the changes that we can make in society through media and that technology, we still have to cower when big brother says no.
Question: How can you accept a reality in which you live a life that you didn’t want?
Question: How can you sit and stay sitting when all around us our brothers and sisters are in arms fighting for their position in this world, with no avail?
Answer: Because the vast of majority of us do not have any other options but to do the same and live the same life that we were born into. We can ONLY sit. We can ONLY watch. We don’t have the POWER, we don’t have the MONEY, and we obviously don’t have the RIGHT for our freedoms to be a reality.
That pathetic stream of consciousness is just an outcry that we need a change. An outcry that we want heard and someone to step up to make that change.
Think back to the Freedom Riders during the Civil Rights movement of the 1960’s. They originally wanted the buses and bus stations to be free of segregation so that American’s could ride together as one and peacefully. So then groups started to form and people from every corner of the US were riding down to the south because of 21 individuals who didn’t accept my answer above and knew that they had to voice their opinions and shed light on the fact that they had rights. Not all of the 21 were African American, nor all male nor female. A Mix to show that this melting pot needed and wanted a change from it’s barbaric ways. These individuals were beaten very badly, sent to prison, and yet still marched on. It was a peaceful protest. They never once struck back and fought until the system brought them down. Then more groups came. Individuals even. Some by train, car, bus. It didn’t matter because one of the strongest things in this universe is an idea. One Idea can lay a seed that can foster an ideal. Then that ideal can bring about an outcry to the people that will march it’s way to Washington and show that united we have been oppressed but “We Will Overcome”.
That’s just a short glimpse into what happened in Alabama and all the oppression of the time, but it’s an example that we can stand up with and overcome now.
I remember a time when I had no food, not a place to sleep at night, and it seemed all hope was lost. Debt all around me and my family all in the same boat of debt and not able to help me. I was a frequent at food pantries, I was crashing on friends couches, broken inside because all that I had strived for was forcibly taken from me because of my own neglect. For this I cannot blame the system, for this I cannot blame anyone but myself, yet I’m still writing this. They take my Medicaid away for years, and now I’ve gotten it back. Yet I’m still writing this. Why?
Because out there, even though things have straightened up a bit (Not a lot at all, but on track for change), they still are going astray for one of our brothers and sisters. Hell, I’m sure many more than one. These are just issues of the small time, and there are more. The government has taken away all confidentiality on the internet. I understand that we want to stop piracy, we want to know what’s happening, but when you give control to commercial organizations such as Comcast and AT&T, how can you say that our rights aren’t being trampled on? If they feel we are going against their company or the government (This part I can understand), they have the right to throttle us or kick us off the internet really. That’s just a starting point for where this goes. What else can net neutrality bring to the table in the future? Say, an uprising. An American Revolution Part Duex. They could take a page from Egypt’s book and close all internet connectivity because now it’s under one roof and one bill with just one switch. So with that idea it lays ground work for more and more of this “Conniving heartless selfishness” that I was talking about. Money and greed can only bring about destruction and desolation for the American. I’m not saying give up on all monetary connections, I’m saying that there is a difference between a need and a want.
Our forefathers fought for these freedoms that they did not think could or ever would be taken away. I’m sure the viewpoint at the time didn’t include all these things that gripe us today, but it’s the idea as I’ve said. This idea of “freedom” as a commodity that American’s could enjoy on a daily basis and grow up with. That one man could open up a shop and be successful in his town and grow and grow to own a network of these shops that help and build communities with money and jobs. Don’t get me started on Wal-Mart (Does not fall under this category). That the people could overcome any problem and be one together. I miss this idea as it lingers in my brain.
I still long for the “American Dream” All the same.
